The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and buried; He descended to the dead. The third day he rose from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit. I believe in the holy universal church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
As United Methodists we believe that God is no respecter of persons and that His Grace is freely given to all and is accessible by all. United Methodists do not believe that some persons are created to be chosen for salvation and others are created to be condemned. We do not believe in "predestination," in the classic protestant understanding. United Methodists believe that before we were capable of choosing God, He called and loved us through Prevenient Grace. When we surrender our own wills and align ourselves with the will of God through Jesus Christ, we are "made right" through the work of Jesus Christ on the cross through Justified Grace. Through Jesus Christ we grow in our desire to become more and more "holy" or set apart for the work and purposes of the Kingdom of God by Sanctifying Grace.
